In a recent keynote speech, former Vice President Mike Pence stated, “The Georgia election was not stolen and I had no right to overturn the election on January 6.”

This statement was made during the National Conference of State Legislatures’ 2023 Legislative Summit held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Pence’s comments come in the wake of the indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 others by a Georgia grand jury. The indictment stems from reported violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) concerning efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

Pence emphasized the rule of law, stating, “No one is above the law,” as reported by Politico. He also underscored the importance of due process, noting that “the President and all those implicated are entitled to the presumption of innocence.”

Reiterating the validity of the Georgia election results, Pence described it as a “hard truth.” He referenced a statement by Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA), which read, “For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward — under oath — and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor.”

In the backdrop of these events, Trump has announced a forthcoming press conference where he intends to present “irrefutable” evidence of his innocence in the Georgia matter. Trump has consistently held the view that the 2020 Georgia election was manipulated.

The Washington Examiner reported that other GOP candidates broke with Pence and harshly criticized Trump’s latest indictment.

Vivek Ramaswamy, currently in the No. 3 position in most polls, was among the first to comment on the indictment. He voiced his concerns on X and later during a town hall event on NewsNation.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) criticized the indictment, referring to it as a politicized move within the justice system.
