Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been voted out of the House Freedom Caucus after one member claims the call to remove her was “an appropriate action, after some of the things she’s done.”
Maryland GOP Rep. Andy Harris told Politico: “A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done. The vote was successful and consequently as far as I know, that is the way it is… that she is now formally out of the group.”
“Though tensions were already brewing within the Freedom Caucus, the formal vote came shortly after Greene and fellow caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) got into a heated clash on the House floor — details of which were quickly leaked to reporters,” Politico reported.
“I think the way she referred to a fellow member was probably not the way we expect our members to refer to another fellow, especially female, members,” Harris said on Thursday, appearing to refer to Greene reportedly calling Boebert a “little b*tch.”
“I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was publicly saying things about another member in terms that no one should,” he said.
Greene made headlines last week when she called on the GOP-controlled House to begin impeachment proceedings for Justice Department officials.
The Georgia Republican believes that Attorney General Merrick Garland and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves should be removed from office, noting that Garland’s “refusal to prosecute Joe and Hunter Biden while persecuting President Trump and many conservatives is grounds for impeachment,” she wrote in a tweet. “It’s absolutely unacceptable to allow these criminals to maintain power.”
In another post, she noted that she moved to impeach President Joe Biden not long after he took office.
“I filed Articles of Impeachment on Joe Biden’s first full day in office,” she wrote. “We already knew many of the crimes he committed then, but now we know so much more in just 6 months of a Republican-led House thanks to the important investigative work being done on @GOPOversight.”
Earlier in the week, Greene called for impeaching the president after she shared an edited clip that she said indicated Biden was “literally admitting his crimes out loud.”
At an event alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Biden had joked that he “sold a lot of state secrets” before clarifying that he was “kidding” according to the official White House transcript.
Greene’s latest tweets come after Rep. Lauren Boebert was able to use House rules to force a snap vote that sent her impeachment resolution to congressional committees for consideration, although they are under no obligation to do anything. That measure charges the president with “high crimes and misdemeanors” over his handling of the U.S. border with Mexico.
Democrats have complained that Greene and Boebert are making a “mockery” out of the impeachment process, but their party moved to impeach then-President Donald Trump twice over allegations they considered serious.
